Pegasus Airlines World Cup: Approaching the Finals!
Organized by Sportworks, the Pegasus Airlines PWA Windsurf World Cup began on Monday, August 10th with the participation of 64 Men and 19 Women windsurfers at Myga Surf City, Alaçatı. The world’s best and fastest slalom windsurfers will be competing for the € 45,000 worth prize until Saturday, August 15th. The Pegasus Airlines PWA World Cup races were paused for the day due to the unsufficient wind. Until today, 8 eliminations were completed. On the final day of the event, the races will be continued according to the wind conditions.
The ROZI LADIES CUP was held instead of the PWA races. A team challenge generously organized by one of the event sponsors Rozi. Team Turkey versus team France versus the World team, in a relay battle in front of an enthusiastic and energetic crowd.
Team Turkey consisted of their finest athletes. Çagla Kubat, Lena Erdil and Melek Toraman.
Team France included event leader Valerie Ghibaudo, Alice Arutkin and Marion Raïsi.
The World Team incorporated three of the event top four, with Sarah-Quita Offringa, Sarah Hebert and Karin Jaggi making up the seemingly invincible dream team.
From the outset, the favorites dominated with Offringa pumping off into an impressive lead. Behind the remainder of the fleet struggled to plane with Kubat making up valuable ground for Team Turkey. Ghibaudo did her best to catch up in a last ditch chance for Team France but she was chasing an unattainable lead from The World team. With the crowd cheering, it was Jaggi that crossed the finish first claiming victory and the majority share of the prize purse. The prizes were given by the Rozi General Manager Yigit Kaya.
As the party kicked off on the beach, the crowds were treated to free FOSTERS beer and the FOSTERS bikini contest. Tonight the music is pumping and it looks like the night will be a long one as the PWA enters into its grand finale.
As it stands, Albeau leads by a comfortable margin, with Maynard and Dunkerbeck scrapping for second and third. In the women’s fleet, Ghibaudo now looks certain to win both the event and the World title. Behind her, the fight for the podium remains breathtakingly close between Offringa, Hebert and Jaggi. Whatever happens we are all set for a nail biting finish.
Additionally on the last day of the event there will be the ETİ MAXIMUS Freestyle Windsurf Show. The freestylers will fascinate the audience with their acrobatic movements. The entertainment will continue with DJ YAKUZA’s outstanding performance.
The award ceremony will be held on August 15th at 18:00. The Pegasus Airlines Chairman Ali Sabancı will distribute the awards to their proprietors.
